I get really fired up about being a man.
There seems to be a lot of question out there as to what it actually *means* to be a man. Modern culture would tell you that you become a man when you get married, when you get your first career job, when you finally move out of your parents’ house, when you lose your virginity or some mixture of those and other life events. I believe that being a man has little to nothing to do with jobs, sex or housing. It has everything to do with a maturity in the way you handle your responsibilities.
Being a man is not about being “tough” for toughness’ sake. We don’t have to grow incredible beards or know how to survive in the wilderness with nothing but a knife and a flint (though both are incredible). A man balances toughness and tenderness. He knows how to hold an imaginary tea party with his daughter and how to defend his home if needed. A man can grab the bull by its horns and his wife gently by the hand.
Though we many not all enjoy hunting, fishing, camping and hiking there is something inside of us that comes alive in the outdoors. We were created in the wilderness and recharge when we walk among the pines, lakes and fields. In Genesis 2:7 it says:
>”Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
God made us from the dust of the ground; from earth and clay. He then *put* us in the garden. Genesis 2:15:
>”The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
We weren’t created to live in a cubicle or suburban cookie-cutter house; we were created tend *His* garden and experience the creation all around us. Am I saying you can’t be a man and live in suburbia? Not by any means! Suburbia is perfectly (though not for me) but we *need* to get out in to creation and discover what God has placed around us. We come alive when we walk out in true masculinity. **Go out find what that means for you**.
